Building components Brief intro to what they are and how to use them
What are building components?
Building components are virtual constructs to subset a building in the portal. It is an advanced function for those yearning for detailed control and is usually applied when there is a sub-metering system installed or to manage tenants.
A component may represent anything you need. Tenant space, warehouses, offices, parking lots, building floors - essentially anything you wish to measure as a separate entity.
How do I configure building components?
The first step is to select Building Component in the New Object menu found in the lower right-hand corner of the portal. Building components can only be created within properties or buildings.
Once you've picked a name and entered the area of the component, pick the most appropriate Type. Tenant space - Media purchased by landlord if the meters are to be billed to tenants or Tenant space - Media purchased by tenant if the tenants have their own utility contracts.
Once created, your components will be visualized directly underneath the property (or building). Main meters that cover the entire property are to remain at the property level. These can later be applied to the components using virtual meters.
We recommend that you add sub-meters to the appropriate components. If the goal is to prepare invoice documentation to your tenants, link the sub-meters to the appropriate tenant contracts. You will find more information about this here.
